We’re doing good work here.

In conversation with Nate Christen, who’s taught English at PYC Arts & Tech for 13 years:

“It’s so rewarding to see students be successful here when they’ve struggled elsewhere. You really see that what you’re offering to them is working – not all the time, but often.

We’re doing good work here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Minneapolis Public Schools supports learner options through a variety of small school programs, including contract alternative schools like PYC Arts & Technology High School. All of these programs are public schools authorized by the state of Minnesota. The variance among them lies in their legal contracts. The commonality is their commitment to serving students and families.

Contract Alternative Schools are run by community agencies that hire staff and provide the educational program. Their mission is to serve at-promise youth as defined by Minnesota state statute. Students attending these schools continue to be Minneapolis Public Schools students during their enrollment. Last year, approximately 1200 students received an education in these schools.

We enroll students in grade 9 through grade 12, up to 20 years of age. We also work closely with students’ parents, guardians and family members.

Students must be referred to PYC by someone at their current or previous high school. Please call Teria Holmes at 612-643-2018 for more information.

If you’ve already received a referral from your current or previous high school, start the PYC enrollment process by calling Teria Holmes at 612-643-2018.

Teria Holmes, PYC’s School Office Specialist says, “We’re a diverse school. We handle diverse needs. There’s lots of individual support and care for our students through our PLUS program*, our excellent teachers, student engagement team and social workers.  Oh, and PCYC owns the Capri, which is right across the street from the high school. That’s a really nice benefit!”
Take a look at the PYC video, too, to get a good idea of PYC’s specialties.
* The ALC Plus program provides a mix of supports to youth and young adults who are involved in county services such as juvenile probation, truancy intervention, and foster care, or who are pregnant or parenting. The program aims to boost attendance, increase high school graduation, and help secure job placements.

PCYC is the umbrella agency that manages PYC Art & Technology High School, Bright Futures, and the Capri.
