Why do I give to PCYC?

Meet Jean Schwartz, who’s been involved with PCYC for 50 years as a donor, board member (now board emeritus), volunteer, Gift Sale coordinator, and joyful advocate for the agency.

Why do I give to PCYC?

I give because of the agency’s long-standing commitment to enriching the lives of children and youth through education and arts programming. In fact, PCYC manages their resources wisely to bring growth experiences to all ages on the Northside.  And – they have the best people in the world working there!

Over the years I’ve particularly enjoyed…

Graduation night. The joy and pride of students and families is palpable. It’s heartwarming to hear students speak about how staff members have been so invested in helping them reach their goals.

The Children’s Gift Sale – and the sheer joy of being with children as they shop for family members. They have so much energy and excitement as they try to find “the perfect” gift item for loved ones.

The Camp Capri and Glee programs.  It’s really fun to see how the teaching artists work with students to develop writing and singing skills, and dance choreography, and how to perform before an audience with confidence. There is so much pride on the faces of the youth!

PCYC is about hope and opportunity.

The Bright Futures K-5 program blends academic enrichment and recreation with a really caring staff.  The dedicated teaching staff and social workers at PYC Arts & Tech High School meet students where they are, and together they build an educational program that gets them to graduation. The Capri Best Buy Tech Center offers the latest in skills-building tools and job preparation. The new Capri is welcoming to all and presents a wide variety of events and entertainment programming. And throughout the campus, the atmosphere is positive.

PCYC is dedicated to being a beacon of hope, shining bright for all. This has been PCYC’s commitment to the community in each of the 50 years I’ve been involved.
