In all parts of the United States, Black, Indigenous and people of color have been by far the most adversely affected by COVID-19, and the North Minneapolis community is no different. Our PCYC neighbors have been and continue to be very stressed under the weight of this virus. Sheer numbers illustrate the impact:
% of the population of MN | Proportion of COVID cases | |
---|---|---|
White | 80% | 52% / 50% of all hospitalizations |
Black | 6% | 15% / 20% of all hospitalizations |
Hispanic | 5% | 14% / 3% of all hospitalizations |
Community partners all over North Minneapolis are stepping up to help mitigate the hardship for our families. One of the most immediate ways you can help individuals and families struggling to meet their basic needs, particularly for food, is to make a donation to support NorthPoint’s Food Shelf and Mobile Food Program at northpointhealth.org.
