PCYC Hosts Learners to Leaders in Education Program

by Alison Bey, Learners to Leaders in Education Coordinator

I joined PCYC this spring as the coordinator for a new program, Learners to Leaders in Education (LLE), which is funded by a grant from the McKnight Foundation and is a collaborative effort of the Metropolitan Federation of Alternative Schools. My work here will be informed by my experience in a variety of educational fields, from digital literacy, to ESL, to basic education for high school students and adults.

In the LLE program I’ll be working with all of the Contract Alternative Program (CAP) high schools in the Twin Cities, recruiting CAP students who are interested in teaching careers, and helping them explore the many different pathways to careers in education. I’m planning a summer school session that will be a hybrid classroom/online course with weekly field trips to educational sites, modeled after a typical Intro to Education course that students may take in college.

I’m also working hard to form partnerships and build awareness of the program throughout the Twin Cities, and welcome new connections and ideas. Contact me at abey@pcyc-mpls.org or 612-607-4402 (call or text). Thank you!
