This Summer: Getting Hands Messy, Trying New Things

by Jaleeza Smith-Breedlove, Director of Bright Futures

After a dreary and quiet school year spent largely at home in front of the computer, many youth are in need of an outlet for the summer – and many parents agree.

Bright Futures K-5 Enrichment at PCYC (BF) is highly aware that the last place youth want to spend their summer is in a classroom receiving additional instruction. But experts say that after a year of interrupted study, it’s crucial for our youth to do at least some sort of learning over the summer break, even if it’s not in school and features non-traditional offerings.

Bright Futures has a plan for that! This summer, BF summer instruction will be in person, finally, offering youth-focused, enrichment-based programming that emphasizes more engagement and entertainment, youth interests, and skills-building. We will lean on our strong partnerships to create an environment of exploratory learning, where our hands get dirty, and we try things for the first time.

BF will also continue to offer Bright Futures on Demand for youth and families who are not ready to return to in-person activities. This online library, created by BF staff, features fun activities and lessons for all ages. Supplies are available for those who plan to participate.

As we transition into our summer program, BF will continue to make the health and safety of our youth and families the top priority. Our summer program will run from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, June 28  to August 13.

Enrollment for the Bright Futures summer session will begin May 1 at pcyc-mpls.org/brightfutures or call (612) 643-2096.

We look forward to seeing our youth and families soon!
