David Tarleton Named Director of Education for PYC Arts & Technology High School

by Janet Zahn, Communications Manager

David Tarleton was recently named Director of Education for PYC Arts & Technology High School after serving as Interim Director for a short time.

Tarleton’s professional life is strongly rooted in PCYC. For more than 20 years, he’s been a key, consistent contributor to this agency’s growth and success through his work as a teacher, administrator and technology specialist.

“We’ve come a long way,” Tarleton says. “The level of education and student expectations is way up. But the mission has not changed, and I’ve always believed in it.”

Tarleton has three main goals for the next year. “One, to continue the transition to a project-based learning environment.” In this model, teachers and staff guide students along individual learning pathways, help them make authentic connections to their community and ensure that they meet the educational standards of the state.

His second goal is to take Spark Wednesdays to the next level. Students will be given more responsibility for building this program that’s designed to spark their interests and help them earn credits in new ways.

Third, “As always, I want to make sure that the needs of our teachers and staff are met so they’re able to do their job at the highest level.”

Tarleton mentioned one other longer-term goal. He’d like to create an extensive database of adults who are vested in PCYC and our young people and would be willing to share their knowledge and connections with our students. “As we continue to develop the project-based line of programming within our school, we may be interested in knocking on your door!” To be among the first on the list, or to connect with David Tarleton: dtarleton@pcyc-mpls.org, 612-643-2097.
