Closing Out the School Year with Flying Colors

By Janet Zahn, Communications Manager

We have important news of transition to share with you. PYC’s Director of Education, John Peterson, has resigned. He and his wife are pursuing a dream of owning and running a coffee shop named Yellow Bird in their St. Paul neighborhood. We wish them well, and thank John for his years with PYC and his work to move our school forward.

Since Peterson’s announcement a transition team consisting of teachers and staff has been in place, gathering input, externally and internally, about the experience, skills and characteristics that are most important to the Director of Education position. And everyone has worked hard to keep things running smoothly.

David Tarleton

Part of that “smoothness” includes the appointment of long-time PYC employee, David Tarleton, as Interim Director of Education. Tarleton is working on several goals during the transition. “First, as always, our work is focused on our kids and doing what’s best for them. I want to visit with students to make sure they understand that they’re the reason we all do what we do,” he said. “I’m also committed to helping our staff stay connected with their passion for their work, and will support them as they finish up this year – and get ready to go again in the fall! Finally, we’ll all work to build the best possible environment for the person who will be hired.”

Anne Long, Director of PCYC, added, “We have a very strong and capable staff, and together we will close out the school year with fl ying colors!”
