Capital Campaign Momentum Grows

By Debra deNoyelles, Director of Development

In 2015 PCYC launched a $9.5 million capital campaign to expand and renovate the historic Capri Theater. Designed as a beacon of art, civic and learning activities in North Minneapolis, the expansion plans include new, multi-purpose spaces for community and rental use, additional theater amenities like dressing rooms and a green room, reception spaces, a Teen Tech Center for young people, additional classrooms, and more.

Now, as we head into the public phase of our Capri Renaissance campaign, we are on track to break ground in 2018, with recent donations from friends old and new, bringing us to just over 54% raised toward the $9.5 million goal.

We’ve matched almost $500,000 of contributions so far, thanks to our generous million-dollar match by an anonymous donor. This means we still have space left for you to double the impact of your gift! If you’re thinking about contributing, now is the perfect time.

You can give with confidence, as we’ve received seals of approval from independent experts on nonprofit accountability from Charities Review Council, GuideStar, and Charity Navigator, who recently gave PCYC the highest ranking available – four stars.

Be sure to bookmark our new Capri Theater Capital Campaign page under the Contribute heading on our website. We’ll be updating the page as we go through the campaign and construction phases, and may even offer a few sneak peeks of the work as it progresses.

From a West Broadway Design Charrette over 17 years ago, to soliciting opinions at Open Streets just a month ago, community input has been essential to the development of the Capri Theater. Stay tuned to our Capri emails for even more opportunities to let your voice be heard, especially as we further develop our plans for the public plaza adjacent to the Capri expansion.

We’d love for you to join us in building this beacon of arts and learning that will greatly expand PCYC’s capacity to serve North Minneapolis. To donate, volunteer, or just chat about how you can help, please contact Debra deNoyelles, 612-643- 2042 or see for more details. Thank you!
